"Jason at Children's Hospital" | |||
| phealy |
I was born at OSF - they do good work. |
||
| Kaan |
Recently, people are being hospitalized for mysterious illnesses. I think Jason's situation is nothing more than a viral infection. I hope you continue to share whatever you learn from doctors. Please do not think it is boring for users. Best wishes for you and your family. |

If all went as planned, you're reading this with the whole family at home once again. Good luck and good health to all! |
||
| Michelle |
...is the joy of realization that this small package of perfection will remain with your family, and you will continue to be graced with the honor of guiding him as he grows into manhood. Happy re-birthday, Jason. |

I wouldn't have insurance if it weren't for you guys, so thanks! |
||
| drow |
hey, don't thank us, thank modern medical care. hope your insurance is up to snuff. |
||
Ryan |
I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind words, positive energy, and prayers. I thought it was bad when I was in the hospital but this was an order of magnitude worse. Jason is responding to treatment and is back to his usual feisty self. We are hoping to bring him home tonight. Meanwhile I am trying to be creative today. It's quite therapeutic! |
||
| pinion |
Thank God! That is awesome news Ryan! We will keep the little guy in our prayers and thoughts. |
||
| Michael |
I have two beautiful daughters and I can't imagine going through anything like this with them. I'm glad the doctors were able to care for and watch over your son. You have all the sympathy and well wishes I can muster. I'm not a believer, but if there some way that I could help out, sending a card, sending a modest donation to take him to his favorite restaurant once he recovers, anything, just let me know. |

| Nessie |
So glad he is doing better. Big hugs to you guys x |

I just caught this thread and saw your "the news is good" post. Glad to hear it. Unless you've personally seen a virus in action, most people don't think they are a big deal. It's nothing to mess with. I'm sorry you little guy has to go through this, but I'm glad to hear he is on the mend and the worst appears to be in the rearview mirror. Postive vibes and prayers headed your way. |

I will of course pray for your Jason. I am the comment with the name "Get Better" so it may seem very dark now but now even when there seems like there is no chance. You can have a miracle happen. You would just have to ask my mom and dad because as I said my situation was so bad they actually had a priest come in to give me my last rights. I came out of my coma the next night. |
||
| Get Better |
I was diagnosed with Leukemia when I was 16. At that age you think you're Superman and can fight anything. I have been in remission for 6 years. So I wish the best for your family and your son. The doctors noticed my problem because my platelets were at 30000. The normal count for a healthy person is 150,000 to 400,000. It was so low that whenever I would cut myself it would never stop. I had a nosebleed that lasted close to 1.5 hours. Usually leukemia would target platelets and white blood cells. My case was worsened by having an allergic reaction to a chemotherapy drug which caused me to have a stroke. But as I am constantly reminded: I am here, alive and healthy. My case was so bad that after I recovered from my coma/brain surgery with little side effects one of the doctors decided to research how prayer could affect one's mentality so they can recover physically because I was told people would talk to me and pray for me out loud when I was in a coma. |

Hey i just wanted to say that I too have faught a deadly infection. On November 30 I was admitted to hospital and 3 days later started on IV antibiotics for 7 days. I had somehow developed deadly bacteria in my blood, ALL organs (excluding heart naturally, although I had a lovely test where they did an ultrasound inside my body looking at my heart requiring me to swallow down a huge camera thing on a tube...) and my blood was riddled. Not only that but it was living in the muscles surrounding my hip on my left leg, between the bones in the left hip (it was actually separating the bones) and in all the space surrounding it. I had a very high fever, and I almost died, for 3 or 4 days I was really on deaths doorstep. To this day the doctors dont know quite how a bacteria living on my skin managed to make it into my bodys insides, but it was a cousin of the flesh eating bacteria, only slightly less dangerous (I dont know the english name of them but theyre called streptokocker in swedish). Anyway the point is, I was in hospital for over 25 days fighting it. BUT I recovered, as you can tell by the mere fact im typing this up. I was lucky enough to get to be home for Christmas, before returning for another week, and they hope I wont have any permanent damage to the hip or the muscle (its looking good so far) so although I am in a wheelchair and require crutches for getting around, I will get better and I wholeheartedly believe your darling son will as well. The pressure the bacteria was putting on my siatic (cant spell it sorry) nerve is getting less daily, and I have taken a few steps without crutches this week! Infections in blood naturally something I now wouldnt wish upon my worst enemy. For a while they even thought I would become sterile as my womanly areas were also infected, I had little pockets of the bacteria just floating around in my torso even. If science could save me, I sincerely believe it can help your son. Dont get discouraged, its a hard and long long road (I have been on antibiotics for over 8 weeks now, only 2 more to go!) but if you perservere you can make it. He is young and kids bounce back from things with strength you wouldnt believe. I dont believe in god but I am crossing my fingers and toes that science can save him the way it saved me. I only told all of this so that you could maybe see some hope in my story. My illness was lurking in my body for 4 or 5 weeks before I became suddenly (within 12 hours) too ill to move from the bed and completely unable to walk. So sometimes things happen seemingly so fast that they are incomprehensible but hospitals are amazing. They are filled with doctors and nurses who really do care. My thoughts are with you, and I am officially sending all my luck over to your family, I hope you find some hope in my own miraculous near death recovery, and I really really hope above all else that your adorable little guy will make a full recovery swifter and far less painfully than I did. I have been a loyal member since the beginning and I almost feel like you, your wife, and Jason too are friends of mine from reading all your life updates. I hate that this is happening to your family. I am so sorry that this burden fell upon you all. Good luck and I hope you will have good news for us soon. Keep your hope and faith up, dont let them falter, they will get you through this. |
||

We're keeping your whole family in our thoughts, Ryan. Sending healing thoughts for your little one and peace and serenity for you and the rest of your family as you journey through this. |

Let's face it Ryan, good health doesn't seem to run in the family for you... but you pull through everytime. Jason has your genes... he has to be a strong fighter, and although things may be looking bad, if he's anything like his old man he'll be doing the limbo in no time! Just think positivly as worrying will only cause you additional stress (which also affects others around you). Keep happy and try not to think about the worst. Viruses are common and worse for the young, as their immune systems aren't as effective as they are later in life... Just keep your chin up and do what you can! |
||
| Travis |
Ryan, don't assume anything bad until you know for sure. I've had some pretty big scares with my kids and now, years later, they are stories that we tell at holidays. Everything will be fine. Make the best of any situation that comes your way. Deal with facts not assumptions. Assumptions can be all for nothing. Jason will be in our prayers. Get some rest, it will make your attitude better. |

I'm very sorry to hear about this, Ryan. Having a sick child is terrifying, I know. Just try not to dwell on the worst case scenarios and instead deal with things as they come. |
||
| Mark J. |
So sorry to hear about this. Hope he's better real sson. |

Quakers don't pray, but we do what's called holding people in the light. Fruity, I know, but what are you gonna do? I will be holding you and Jason and the rest of your family in the light and hoping for the least scary news possible. |
||
| John T |
I wish your son and family a swift and safe recovery from this illness. I wish you only the best. All will be well in time. |

I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear that your son has taken ill, and that I will pray for his swift recovery. |

Our prayers are with you and I hope he is back to running around and getting in the way really soon. |

I can't even imagine what you are going through. As a new mother I'd be out of my mind with worry. When my daughter cries my heart breaks. I hope that all goes well and your son recovers quickly. |
||
| Gary |
It's has to be rough... most children's hospitals are very good at what they do... I'm sure he will be ok. |
||
| dujeon |
I really pray for his swift recovery and pray for you and your family at this time. God bless |
