Pictures of YOU, that is.. |

Maybe we can get some of your pictures too :D |

How about some of your setup pics in an 'about me' section on your website. (I have zero interest in joining facebook to see them). |

I am still using the Nvidia QuadroFX 5500 card that was in the system when I originally purchased it. It's supposed to be one of the best cards around, but I have to admit that I am not all that impressed. I don't think the programs I use (Lightwave/Vue d'Esprit) are optimized to take advantage of such a card. Still, it's nice to have in case they ever do decided to come out with optimized versions. |

WOW thats some amazing hardware!. you'll have a blast! I hope you get an amazing graphic card too to complete the amazingness! |

I cannot imagine doing what you do with only 1 monitor. I have been dual-monitor for about 3 years now, and when I use single-monitor setups it drives me nuts. It is not unusual for me to have my laptop in use at the same time. My 17 yo has been dying for a third monitor for a while, but he has his sites set on a 30" widescreen, not exactly cheap. We have been subscribing for years, and have used your images on our PDA's, phones, PSP's, laptops, you name it. Do you give group discounts? |

Wait, you said some of your Vue files are over 5 GB?? Man, my largest is only 1 GB, and that took me like 2 days to render!!! Of course I'm jealous of your new rig, although I myself just built a new one, so I'm pretty content. Also, I'd just like to pass along my thanks, 'cause ever since I joined I've been addicted to modeling (just started a couple weeks ago, so I'm nothing special) but I'm completely hooked and if I had ever done my homework before, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be now. Hmmmm ... not a very good comparison, but you get the gist, I hope ... |

I used Win XP 64-bit, which will make good use of all this RAM. |
||
| Curious |
Ryan, what operating system are you running? It is difficult for most Windowzzz OSs to accept 16GB or RAM, unless of course you're running the 64 bit version. Are your tools available for 64bit versions? |

I've loved your work for several years now and I am looking forward to seeing what you can accomplish with that much computing power under your desk! I renew my subscription every year; thanks for keeping me coming back. :) |

Scott: If I were rendering a lot of animations then I could see spreading things out, but I don't think the technology is there yet to efficiently render stills on more than one machine. Vue advertises the ability to split stills over more than one machine, but it is really buggy. Some of my scene files are more than 5 GB and the setup alone can take forever (before everything crashes). No, I prefer to render my images on a single machine. Now that I have the equivalent of 8 workstations under my desk it will hopefully go somewhat faster. |

And with a side rendering machine, we'll get you on multi monitors yet :-D! |

Why do you have all your processing power in 1 computer? Why not buy half a dozen decent Dells or whatever and spread the render across all of them? |
||

That blows my computer out of the water. I have a laptop that I have had for almost 4 years now and it's so weak. I have a Pentium M processor with 1.50 GHz AND 1.25 GB of RAM. I'm very jealous of you. |
||
| Tuishimi |
You know, 20 years ago a computer like that could have run an entire fortune 500 company. LOL! Seriously, the old Time-Share VAX and IBM computers could host 50 users with only 32 or 64 MB of ram, and 1 GB of hard disk space. :) Enjoy your new machine! |

I'm absolutely GREEN! 16GB RAM - heavenly..... Enjoy |

Right after I gave up on Facebook and had my account deleted (no deactivated, request deleted) this pops up. :P Nuts. Love your work Ryan. That new machine sounds like a screamer. Care to donate it to me for free ;P |

Thanks Chad. My main box uses a Tyan Tempest i5000xt. My "render box" will use an ASUS MB. The RAM arrived this afternoon, btw, and I just installed it. All the sticks were good and everything is running great. I'm sure I will max it all out somehow though... |

I just wanted to say SICK setup. What kind of board are you using, if you dont mind me asking? |
||
| GoldenWing |
I personally have 5 LCD monitors side by side that only run your multi-monitor wallpaper. I would be happy to take a photo and submit it to you. I am also very interested to see how other folks have setup there own multi-monitor workstations. -=GoldenWing=- |

I didn't want to replace the motherboard in my current box so I chose the faster processor that was compatible. In this case it was the 5365. |
||
| D |
That should bring your render times down to more reasonable durations. I'm wondering why you chose the X5365 over the X5450 which has 12MB cache and the same 3.00GHz clock speed for about $250 less. Or for that matter, the X5460 which has 12MB cache and a higher 3.16GHz clock speed for nearly the same price as the X5365. |

Now is our chance to show Ryan the glory, that dual/tri screen. Personally I'll be posting both my office and home setups. Maybe we can finally convert him to our way of life...lol |
||

I use 64-bit Windows XP. Not ready to have Vista on my main machine yet... |
||
| Steve |
16 GB of RAM?! Ay Carumba! I guess you must be using 64 bit Vista 'cause 32 bit Vista can't use more than 3.5 GB. I'm jealous. |
||

That amount of processing power blows my mind. I imagine with those processors and all that memory, you'll be able to crank out wallpapers with much less trouble. Good stuff, and looking forward to the new wallpaper. :-) |
