Green and Gold
This was my first attempt to craft more detailed Vue d'Esprit trees by building the branches themselves out of individual Vue tree models. I edited them in the Solid Growth editor to get them to bend the right way and then I places them around a central trunk.

The effect was pretty convincing, except in this case I didn't set up the "branches" so they all intersected the trunk. This precluded a winter version of this scene because the disconnects would be visible. Perhaps I will come back to it and try to work something out. I have an autumn version here and would love to try a winter scene someday.

This should go into the Winter Gallery as a separate entry. It would perfect for it.

"Nice, but a little dark"
Not sure if if it's my viewing environment or what but the lower right corner is a little dark to see any detail at all. Yeah, I see the animal, and yes, it looks equine, but there's no way I'm seeing a horn in that.

Still, I like these kinds of images: looking out, looking in, secret places. Good job over all.

"Trees"
As a botanist, I am sensitive to the portrayal of plants. This is my favorite (even 3 years later) for the use of different trees' shapes and branching. Like Andrew, I love watching how the trees [in your art] improve over time.

A night version of this would be totally hot. What do you think, Ryan? If you're not busy or anything. ;)

At World's Edge (Winter)
The second in my "At World's Edge" series. As I did with the "Green and Gold" tree, I fashioned this one out of many individual Vue tree models. I learned from my first mistake however and made sure the branches all intersected the trunk. That made possible this leafless Winter version. It is my personal favorite of the series.

Red and Gold
This image is a follow-up to Green and Gold. The tree is the same and because each branch is an individual Vue tree object I can color the leaves on one branch differently that the others. I had always been dissatisfied with the control Vue gives over the leaf coloration on a tree-by-tree basis and this is the best workaround that I've found thus far.

Out of all the wallpapers on this site, this is probably my favorite. I like all the versions of this one, but the fall version is the best. Something about the vivid autumn leaves against the grey sky. Just awesome. Ryan, you should do a Night version, with the tree silhouetted against the moon and night sky.

"Very thought provoking."
I've seen your first "Pride", and I understood then. That you came back years later to remake it with your polished skills and better tech, and in this day, speaks two very good things: That you knew you could take a great piece and make it so much better, and that maybe you felt people needed a reminder. With so much going on these days, it seems more and more people need a reminder of what's important.

Moonlit Citadel
This is a night version of my 2008 "Citadel" update. Here's the original I rendered in Bryce way back in 1998.

I hadn't been able to finish the multiscreen version back in 2008 due to a bug in how Vue 8 rendered clouds when you change the aspect ratio. In the summer of 2011 I opened the file in Vue d'Esprit 9.5 and saw that the bug was fixed. It took my alternate box nearly a month but I was able to finally finish the multiscreen render.

It looked so much better than the Vue 8 version that I have replaced the single-screen with the new render as well.

"Huge improvement!"
Have to say that, while the day version is a beautiful piece, this is much better for me as a desktop image for my computer. I have always preferred my desktop icons on the left side ... unfortunately this means they got lost in the sun's glare in the daytime image.

Another thing I really like about the night version is the more contemplative feel of the image. The lights, are they other terraces like the one I'm standing on? Are there other people looking back at me wondering who's looking at them? Are they lonely, happy, sad? Fabulous piece Ryan!

I'm a big fan of the abstract art you do, and I just find this particular piece to be my favorite. When I look at this piece I think of the Trinitarian Creation of the Universe and it makes me laugh because you've purposefully titled your work "digitalblasphemy." Great Job!

I personally prefer the landscapes, and am very partial to cool colors, especially blue. But my son loves dark colors, especially reds and blacks, and this is his favorite of your designs. I do find it looks better the bigger it is and the more detail you see.

Just to reiterate, the 3840 x 1200 version isn't centered and is still missing the right hand portion. Any chance of a fix please? I'd like to have this on my desktop but at present it's off balance.

Niflheim
"Niflheim refers to the Norse Mythological realm of cold or fog was the opposite of "Muspelheim" (the realm of fire). The planet and asteroids were rendered in Lightwave and then used as a "planet" object in Vue d'Esprit. I applied sub-surface scattering to the mountains so a little light would shine though. Brrrr.

"2560x1600 Lossless link doesn't work"
I tried downloading the 2560x1600 lossless version, and I get maybe the first 1/5th of the image (384k or so) and that's it. Tried with both Chrome and Safari, same results. Perhaps the file got corrupted somehow?

Anyway, I really like this image and I'd love to add it to my wallpaper rotation, just waiting for the lossless version.

Thanks!
